Accreditation procedure for the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck opens
ABOUT INNSBRUCK 2012
Over 1,000 young athletes aged 15 to 18 will travel to Innsbruck, Austria, to compete in the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 13 to 22 January 2012.
Building on the experience of the first Summer YOG held in Singapore last year, the event presents the innovative concept of a fully integrated sports and culture experience for young athletes from around the world who will compete in 63 medal events in seven Olympic winter sports and 15 disciplines. The participants will also take part in a Culture and Education Programme focused on themes ranging from Olympism and Olympic values to skills development.
ACCREDITATION
Media representatives wishing to cover the Winter Youth Olympic Games are required to complete the accreditation application on the IOC website.
To request your accreditation, please click here
The Youth Olympic Identity and Accreditation Card (YOIAC) will be distributed in Innsbruck at the Main Accreditation Centre (MAC) in Innsbruck, located at the Innsbruck Exhibition Centre (IEC). Please click here for more information regarding the process for collecting your YOIAC.
VISAS
The YOIAC will not function as a visa and will not authorise entry into Austria. EU citizens do not need a visa to enter Austria; a valid photo identification document is sufficient. Individuals requiring a visa to enter Austria must arrange for their own visa. For individuals with accreditation for the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, the visa is free of charge. Please click here to access details of the visa application procedure.
ACCOMODATIONS
Rooms in the media hotels have been secured by the Innsbruck Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (IYOGOC) for bookings made by 30 September 2011 on a first-come-first-served-basis. After this deadline, availability within the media hotels cannot be guaranteed. After 30 September 2011, rooms will be subject to availability.
Once your accreditation request has been confirmed by the IOC, you will receive an email from IYOGOC. This email will provide contact information and instructions on how to book your accommodation. Please allow a couple of weeks for IYOGOC to send you this information as your data will need to be processed first.
Please note that access to the media hotels is not restricted to accredited media.
Please click here for more information regarding the accommodation process as well as the list of hotels.

MEDIA ACCESS TO THE YOUTH OLYMPIC VILLAGE (YOV)
The official opening of the YOV will take place on Monday 9January 2012. On the opening day accredited media will be allowed in the YOV. This will be the media’s only chance to have access to the residential zone.
NON-RIGHTS-HOLDING BROADCAST ORGANISATIONS
The IOC is directly responsible for the allocation of all non-rights-holding broadcasters’ accreditations. Non-rights-holding broadcasters must abide by the IOC News Access Rules and sign an Undertaking on behalf of the organisation and all persons assigned by the organisation to cover the Winter Youth Olympic Games.
News Access Rules apply to television and radio broadcasting by non-rights-holding broadcast organisations. They are designed to protect the exclusivity of broadcasters who have paid for the rights (rights-holders), while permitting fair access to broadcast news highlights for news purposes by non-rights-holding broadcast organisations. The attached News Access Rules clearly outline the rules that apply to coverage by non-rights-holding broadcast organisations, as well as venue access rules within competition venues at the Winter Youth Olympic Games.
Accredited non-rights-holding broadcasters have access to the Main Press Centre (MPC), but do not have access to the facilities and services provided for rights-holding broadcasters within the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC). At the competition venues, non-rights-holding broadcasters have access to venue media centres, press tribunes and mixed zones but may not bring in any camera equipment, recording devices or other technical equipment.
IOC SOCIAL MEDIA, BLOGGING AND INTERNET GUIDELINES
The IOC actively promotes the use of the Internet and social media by accredited persons. The attached “IOC Social Media, Blogging and Internet Guidelines for persons accredited at the Youth Olympic Games” will help those wishing to develop Olympic-related web activity in connection with the upcoming Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck.
Please click here to download the guidelines.
